DIMO expands its annual book distribution to the communities in the fisheries sector

DIMO, a leading diversified conglomerate in Sri Lanka, extended its annual book distribution project for the communities in the fisheries sector, through its recently opened Marine Engineering Workshop in Dikkowita.

Company’s annual book distribution initiative aligns with the objective of creating resilient communities by developing opportunities and partnerships, which is a part of DIMO’s Sustainability Agenda. Additionally, the initiative also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal #4 – Quality Education, with the broader perspective of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. The company conducts its annual book distribution project in Siyambalape, Weliweriya and Thotalanga which are in close proximity to several DIMO facilities.

Fisheries sector and its surrounding communities play an integral part in the economic development of the nation. This year, the company extended its book distribution project to communities in the fisheries sector with an objective of making a greater impact among different communities.

Mr. Ranjith Pandithage, Chairman & Managing Director of DIMO, shared his thoughts on the project, “This is DIMO’s first CSR initiative implemented for the communities in the fisheries sector. We have identified education as a key factor in eliminating poverty and improving overall quality of life. As the nation’s growth partner, it is imperative for DIMO to continue fuelling the dreams and aspirations of all communities.”

Mr. Sumudu Dahanayake, Local Harbour Manager of Dikkowita Fishery Harbour Northern Terminal said, “DIMO vastly contributes to uplifting the local fisheries sector through its best engineering solutions and this initiative reaffirms DIMO’s commitment to social and economic development of the communities in the fisheries sector.”

The book distribution at the DIMO Marine Workshop in Dikkowita was attended by Mr. Gahanath Pandithage, Group CEO of DIMO; Mr. Suresh Gooneratne, Director and CFO of DIMO; Mr.  Mahesh Karunaratne, COO – After Sales Services at DIMO; Mr. Dinuk Peiris, CMO of DIMO; Mr. Sumudu Dahanayake, Local Harbour Manager of Dikkowita Fishery Harbour Northern Terminal; and Mr. Pasindu Sandaruwan, International Harbour Manager of Dikkowita Fishery Harbour Southern Terminal.
